Abstract
Memories and Reflections of a Rural Teacher focuses on the author's personal experiences when, despite not having completed her teacher training at the Primary Teachers' School in Matanzas, she decided to join the Rural Environment Adaptation Course held in San Lorenzo during November and December of 1960. This course took place in the very heart of the Sierra Maestra and marked the beginning of her work as a teacher in a classroom in eastern Cuba. The paper explores a little-known chapter of history regarding the role this course played and the motivations that led thousands of young people to bring the gift of education to the most remote areas of the eastern region. It presents the author's work as a rural teacher from 1961 to 1962 at La Cana Farm, Yarey de Vázquez neighborhood, Puerto Padre, in the eastern part of the country, as well as her involvement in the National Literacy Campaign. The study follows a qualitative methodology aligned with the life history approach, a form of biographical research. It is descriptive in nature, as it reconstructs part of the author's educational practice as a rural teacher. It includes an updated bibliography appropriate for this type of research.
