Abstract

This review presents Cecilia Danesi’s The Empire of Algorithms as a critical work on the sociotechnical role of Artificial Intelligence in contemporary society. The book examines datafication, automated decision-making, and the use of algorithms in areas such as justice, health, public management, and organizations. It highlights both AI’s potential to optimize processes and its capacity to reproduce inequalities, particularly in Latin America. The work advocates for ethical and inclusive AI grounded in regulation, digital literacy, and citizen participation.
