Abstract
A prototype of a SCADA system for characterizing the wind resource in rural areas of Colombia develops. The implemented system serves aspects as statistical analysis of speed and wind direction, temporal distributions of speed and wind direction, census weather conditions such as temperature, pressure and relative humidity, vertical profiles of wind speed, turbulent conditions and burst factors that are essential in the feasibility study of a future wind site. Due to the geographical condition of rural Colombia, was chosen a communication protocol GPRS on a GSM network that is responsible for establishing communication between the embedded system and a web server that stores data. It has a graphical user interface implemented in a mathematical integrated development software for evaluation and characterization of the wind resource in order to determine the viability of a wind site in situ. The system shown prospectively and for future studies as a tool to help improve the spatial modeling of surface wind and adjust the existing vertical profiles, because the country currently has a low density of reference stations.
