It is with great satisfaction that the UNESCO Chair in Reading and Writing at the University of Matanzas, Cuba, participates in this dossier titled "The Humanities: Being and Becoming of Cultural Identity." This compilation presents works gathered from various sections of the journal, reflecting the perspective inspired by the thoughts of Alfonso Reyes, who said, "I want the humanities to be a natural vehicle for all that is indigenous." This approach emphasizes the understanding of educational and cultural processes in the region, considering the cognitive and axiological nodes of the humanities. As noted by Rosario Mañalich, to whom we pay tribute in these pages, it highlights the role of individuals in historical and cultural events, the recreation of a worldview where art, history, literature, thought, education, and heritage converge, alongside the value of imaginal communication.
