Therefore, it offers free and open access to all materials published in its regular, special, or any other issues. This journal has no embargo periods, so its editions are freely available to the public as soon as they are published. The only limitations for users of our materials are those imposed by the Creative Commons CC BY NC ND 4.0 license, which is the only license under which our journal publishes.

4.2. Scope of Open Access

Those accessing this journal may perform the following actions free of charge: read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or use in any digital or physical medium and for any legal purpose the material published here.

The Mexico Declaration (2017) can be found at the following LINK.

  1. Policy on Third-Party Archives and Repositories

5.1. Non-Commercial Free Use Statement

Any editor may use Ciencia e Ingeniería files to be stored in institutional or personal repositories as long as these are not for commercial purposes. Articles may not be part of new edited works. Only storage of the work without modifications is allowed.

This journal uses the LOCKSS system to create a distributed archiving system among collaborating libraries, allowing them to create permanent archives of the journal for conservation and restoration purposes. More information on this can be found at this LINK.

5.2. Simultaneous Archiving Policy

Ciencia e Ingeniería permits simultaneous publication in self-archiving systems and institutional repositories. In all these cases, the license terms of our publications must be respected.

If you wish to harvest our editions, use the OAI-PMH address: http://revistas.uniguajira.edu.co/rev/index.php/cei/oai.

  1. Digital Preservation Policy

This journal uses the preservation module provided by the Public Knowledge Project called "Preservation Network" (PKP | PN). This new native PKP module allows journals published with OJS to have long-term preservation archives. The archive, as explained by PKP, is a dark archive (not accessible to the end user) unless the journal suffers a loss and needs to be recovered from its preservation. More information can be found at this LINK.

To ensure the preservation of the "articles" published by Ciencia e Ingeniería, all documents are deposited in open access preservation and publication platforms: Zenodo (from the European Commission) and Internet Archive.

  1. License and Copyright Terms

Ciencia e Ingeniería publishes exclusively under the Creative Commons CC BY NC ND 4.0 license, which requires:

Attribution: The authorship of each material must be acknowledged, which implies presenting the author's name in a visible place. Similarly, the source must be indicated with an electronic address.

Non-Commercial: All material published by the journal is distributed free of charge. The journal does not allow third parties to use the material for commercial purposes. Many publications are products of public resources, and the journal has published them for free to ensure their distribution. Any commercial use of the publications is strictly prohibited.

No Derivative Works: While all actions described in the "Open Access Policy" section are guaranteed, Ciencia e Ingeniería does not permit the creation of derivative works from the published material. If you wish to use this material in a new work, you must seek authorization from the journal. Any use of our material for third-party works must be authorized by Ciencia e Ingeniería.

International: Our license requires that the material be available without regional restrictions.

The copyright of each published work recognizes the authorship of those who wrote it. However, use must respect the conditions established by the license. Under all circumstances, the publication rights belong to Ciencia e Ingeniería and are shared with any person or institution for non-commercial and preferably educational purposes.

  1. No Article Processing Charges (No APC)

Ciencia e Ingeniería does not apply APC.

  1. Evaluation and Publication Timelines

Articles have a waiting period of 2 or 3 months for a response. They will be published only in their respective editorial period.

  1. Plagiarism Detection Policy

Plagiarism is considered not as a mistake by the author submitting an article for review, but as a crime due to the intentional concealment of authorship and the attempt to appropriate the intellectual effort of others for personal gain. For this reason, Ciencia e Ingeniería uses a plagiarism detection program, currently Turnitin provided by the University of La Guajira. This program is used upon receiving articles and before any submission for evaluation.

  1. Publication Guarantee for External Authors

Ciencia e Ingeniería is committed to open publications and calls that reach the largest number of people. Therefore, to avoid internal material, the publication of external authors to our publishing entity is guaranteed, establishing that those involved in the different committees of Ciencia e Ingeniería cannot publish in the journal, except under justified circumstances.

  1. Special Issues and Other Content Commissioned to Guest Editors

Following the issues addressed by COPE in the discussion document “Best practices for guest edited collections” (https://publicationethics.org/sites/default/files/article-collections-best-practice.pdf) from May 2023 and the new DOAJ criteria from November of the same year (https://doaj.org/apply/guide/), this journal establishes that all content derived from special issues or guest-edited content must meet all acceptance criteria required for regular articles. Peer reviews are the exclusive responsibility of the journal’s team, which will use external reviewers to carry them out. Special issues or guest-edited content will be conducted avoiding any conflict of interest. Guest editors may only publish one article within the invited content, and this article will be subjected to peer review like any ordinary article. This criterion will also be reflected in the editorial ethics of this journal.
